Purchasing a Vehicle in the U.S.?
With the strength of the Canadian dollar, more and more Canadians are purchasing vehicles in the U.S. These vehicles are treated the same as vehicles purchased in Canada. Vehicles must be registered or plated in the province to be insured. Please be aware vehicle upgrades may be needed in order to meet the necessary provincial safety and emissions requirements prior to registration. The Ontario automobile policy provides fourteen days' coverage for newly acquired automobiles. Detailed information on importing a vehicle from the U.S. is provided on Canadian government websites such as Transport Canada (www.tc.gc.ca) and Registrar of Imported Vehicle (www.riv.ca). The U.S. National Insurance Crime Bureau web-site (www.nicb.org) has two databases available, allowing anyone to check if a vehicle has been stolen and to check for potentially flood-damaged vehicles.

Please contact our office with if you have any questions on purchasing vehicles in the U.S.
Please DO NOT Drive Without Car Insurance
All motorists in Ontario are legally required to have car insurance. Fines for convictions for driving without insurance are as follows:

1. For a first conviction, the minimum fine is $5,000 and the maximum is $25,000;
2. For each subsequent conviction, the minimum fine becomes $10,000 and the maximum becomes $50,000.

Uninsured car owners cannot sue for damage to their cars even when they are not at fault for an accident that occurs in Ontario.

Insurance companies can sue an uninsured driver when that driver is at fault to any degree for the accident.

Driving without insurance is against the law; it could be financially devastating; and it's irresponsible. Please do not drive without valid insurance coverage.
